Client Requirement:
This project was phase 2 of three floors that the client took in the listed Economist building. This is an iconic early 1960's office block in St James's Street, originally designed by Alison and Peter Smithson.
The age of the building meant that the floor to ceiling heights were very restricted and the ceiling height was also compromised by a duct around the central core which was an original feature and also listed.
The client needed the glazed partitions to fit on the line of the duct and also incorporate sliding doors.
Project Team:
Client: Fiat Chrysler
Project Manager, designer & QS: Cushman & Wakefield
Main contractor: Como Interiors
Solution:
Vosseler (UK) used Vosseler Lite 1 system and designed a sliding door solution which was bottom rolling and used a minimal headtrack. As such the weight of the glass door was transferred to the floor rather than being suspended from the duct and minimal head tract meant that the ceiling heights were not further compromised.
